EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Bellarmine University Knights volleyball squad fell 3-0 (16-25, 18-25, 24-26) to the University of Southern Indiana in the Screaming Eagles' season opener at the Physical Activities Center Friday night.
With the loss, the Knights are now 5-3 (1-3 GLVC), while the Screaming Eagles maintained their perfect GLVC record and advanced to 6-2 overall (4-0 GLVC).
The Screaming Eagles came out fighting, easily downing Bellarmine in the first two sets. The Knights refused to end the match without a fight, though, as they narrowly lost the final set 26-24.
Sophomore
Krista Gibson paced the Knights' offense with nine kills, while sophomore setter
Bailey BredenbeckCorp recorded 26 assists. Junior libero
Kaitlin Young led the Knights' defense with a match-high 14 digs.
The Knights travel to Owensboro, Ky., on Saturday to face GLVC foe Kentucky Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
