LOUISVILLE, Ky. ---After making a dramatic comeback, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team fell short, giving up a late goal in a 3-2 loss against Lewis University on Friday night at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
The Flyers got on the board first in the 30th minute when Robens Decius found Alosio Barros inside the box who hammered it home for the 1-0 lead.
Bellarmine had opportunities to draw even in the closing moments of the half, hitting the crossbar twice with under five minutes to play. In the opening minutes of the second half,
Bellarmine again had a chance as Lewis goalkeeper Alec Pickett was out of position when a
Brandon Shuck sent a header towards the goal, but was denied by a Flyer defender in front of the goal.
Lewis pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 54th minute when George Thomas rifled a free kick through the wall from 20 yards out and into the net.
Bellarmine drew within one in the 72nd minute when
Cole Page converted a penalty kick after a yellow card was given to Nick Skrip in the box. Then, just 1:40 later
Robert Bowling dribbled up the middle of the field and scored the equalizer to draw even at 2-2.
The ball would bounce Lewis's way though as Decius would score a goal of his own in the 83rd minute, collecting a rebound off the crossbar that
Blake Hunter dove for, leaving the goal open.
Hunter would make three saves on the night, getting the loss, while his counterpart Pickett made three saves in the win.
Bellarmine returns to action on Sunday as they host Wisconsin-Parkside for a 2:30 PM game.
