Men's soccer to host #8 Lewis on Friday, Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Bellarmine University men's soccer team returns to the friendly confines of Owsley B. Frazier Stadium after splitting a two game road trip last weekend. BU will take on the eighth-ranked Lewis University Flyers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 and welcomes the Rangers of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside for a game on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m.

Bellarmine beat the Miners of Missouri S&T last Friday 2-1 on a 92nd minute overtime goal by senior Connor Brehm in his third start of the year. Junior Brycen Howard also scored for Bellarmine, his first of the year. On Sunday, BU lost just its second game of the year with a 0-2 decision at #7 Drury University.

Senior defender Matt Odem is tied for second in the conference in goals per game with a .71 mark on his five goals in seven games. Junior midfielder Dan Schiavi is tied for fifth in points with 11 on the season coming from his four goals and three assists. Junior forward Kai Qualah has three goals on the year.

The Knights have been a strong second-half team this season, outscoring their opponents 10-4 in the period. Two of those four came in their last outing against Drury. Bellarmine has two comeback wins this year.

#8 Lewis University (6-0-2, 5-0-1 GLVC) enters this weekend's games having won a conference-best five in a row, and has gone unbeaten in all eight of their games this season. The Flyers are a perfect 3-0-0 on the road this season, with their wins being at Quincy, St. Joseph's, and Truman State.

Lewis has allowed just four goals all season, outscoring their opponents 13-4. Lewis senior goalkeeper Alec Pickett has a .871 save percentage this season, 13th in the nation and second best in the conference. His .46 goals against average is also second in the league. On offense, the Flyers are led in points (7) and goals (3) by senior forward Cristhian Ramirez.

The Knights beat Lewis 2-0 last year in Romeoville, Ill.

Wisconsin-Parkside (4-3-1, 3-3 GLVC) has bounced back from a three game losing streak to win their last two games, a 1-0 victory over Missouri-St. Louis and a 4-1 win over Maryville University. The Rangers are winless on the road, 0-3, coming into this weekend's games against McKendree on Friday and Bellarmine on Sunday.

The Rangers are led by redshirt-sophomore midfielder Milan Filipovic and freshman forward Thomas Diehl, both with three goals on the season. Freshman midfielder Ryan Shogren leads UWP with three assists this season.

Bellarmine beat Wisconsin-Parkside 2-0 on the road last season.
