LEXINGTON, Ky. --- In their final tune up before conference championships the Bellarmine Knights swimming teams turned in another stellar performance against the Transylvania Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. The men's team earned a 85-65 victory over the Pioneers while the women fell 114-72.
With both programs in their first season of competition, the victory on the men's side is the first-ever dual meet win for the Knights.
Trent Mattingly (200 IM, 100 breaststroke) and
Nathan Blaine (1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle) both picked up two wins a piece for Bellarmine, with the Knights winning five individual events and a relay on the day.
Freshman
Michael Polio was the only other individual winner, taking first in the 100 butterfly.
Sophomore
Alex Caneris (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) picked up two wins on the women's side while
Mallory Kramer and
Hannah Warfel went one-two in the 100 freestyle to pace Bellarmine.
Amanda Forti also turned in an impressive win in the 100 backstroke, winning the event by over four seconds.
The Knights will now look to bring it all together when they travel to Cleveland, Miss. on Feb. 13-16 for the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championship.
