Box Score DANVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine University field hockey team completed a season sweep of in-state rival Centre tonight with a 1-0 victory behind a goal by
Kelsey O'Bryan and a shutout by goalkeeper
Lara Williams.
Bellarmine, which had posted a 4-2 win over the Colonels earlier this year, improves to 8-6 on the season while Centre falls to 12-6.
Tonight's game featured completely different halves. In the opening 35 minutes, the Knights were clearly the aggressor, outshooting the host Colonels 10-3. One of those shots came off O'Bryan's stick 16:47 into the game and slipped past Centre goalkeeper Kirby Roberts for the game's only score.
Alexis Van Wallaghen provided the assist.
In the second period, Centre pushed the action with an 8-4 shot advantage. Defensively, the Knights were up to the task with Williams registering four saves and
Hannah Doll picking up her sixth defensive save of the season.
For the game, the Knights outshot the Colonels 14-11 while Centre held a 5-2 edge in penalty corners. Roberts picked up seven saves with Nicole DeHerd and Kathryn Hardesty registering defensive saves for the Colonels.
Bellarmine returns home for its final home game of the 2014 season on Friday when the Knights will entertain ECAC foe Limestone at 3:55 p.m. Prior to the game, the Knights will hold senior day activities to honor
