LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine Coach
Spencer Adams announced the first two members of his latest recruiting class as Brandon Lucas and Corbin Hale have signed with the Knights wrestling program.
"Both Corbin and Brandon exemplify what we are looking for while building our program here at Bellarmine," Adams said. "Both are leaders on and off the mat and rank among the top of their class academically. They are highly recommended by their high school coaches and live a championship lifestyle. I'm looking forward to coaching both of these young men next season!"
Lucas comes to Bellarmine from Western Brown High School in Mount Orab, Ohio, where he's put together a peerless career. Lucas is a two-time Fargo All-American and aiming to be a four-time Ohio state tournament placer.
"Brandon is a seasoned wrestler who has all the accolades in the world coming out of high school," Adams said. "His technique is remarkable. We plan on adding some muscle on his frame and making him a solid 125/133. He will be working out alongside a couple of other state champions in the respective states once he hits the mat next fall. It's safe to say that our lower weights are going to be very tough next season."
Western Brown Coach Wendel Donathan said Lucas is a standout both on and off the mat.
"Brandon is a conscientious student-athlete," Donathan said. "His performance as a student puts him near the top of his graduating class. As a wrestler, Brandon has broken almost every school record at Western Brown High School and has been a true leader in the room. He is well-liked by many and will definitely bring great things to Bellarmine University and to its wrestling program."
Hale is essentially a local product. He will arrive at Bellarmine from Floyd Central High School in nearby Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Hale is anticipated to wrestle in the 149/157 range.
"Corbin is a very hard worker and has a great frame for a college wrestler," Adams said. "He is very strong and once he is on our weightlifting plan he will only get stronger. Having him in a room as talented as what we have, he will excel quickly on the mat. I'm looking forward to having his attitude and focus in the room."
In turn, Hale is looking forward to joining the Knights.
"I chose Bellarmine," he said, "because I wanted to be in an environment that would make me feel safe and secure in furthering my future, and continuing in the sport I love."
