LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Maggie Walroth joined elite company as the Bellarmine University women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 win over Lake Superior State on Friday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
With her 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles with sophomore
Ashley Jonathan, Walroth became the fifth member of the program's 100-win club. Senior
Marissa Kovach reached the milestone earlier this season. The other Knights to achieve the feat were Rebecca Porter, Sydney Thompson and Caitlin Hanley.
For good measure, Walroth added a straight-sets victory at No. 2 singles for Bellarmine (11-1). Jonathan did as well at No. 3 singles and Kovach (No. 4), freshman
Aubrey Smith (No. 5) and senior
Mairin Cotter (No. 6) made it 5 for 6 against Lake Superior State (5-11) in singles action.
Cotter collected her first victory of the match at No. 3 doubles with senior
Bess Fley. Sophomore
Jennifer Skonieczny and freshman
Ava Ratcliff won at No. 2 as the Knights swept doubles play.
"It wasn't our best tennis, but our effort was superb," Coach
John Mican said. "Our shot selection for the most part was spot-on. It was a good match for us to win to regain our confidence and get some momentum rolling again."
Cotter is now 12-2 in singles play this season. Jonathan has accumulated a team-high 24 wins split evenly between singles and doubles play. Walroth is right behind with 23 victories.
Bellarmine hosts Maryville at 3 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
