ASHLAND, Ohio — A program-record five Bellarmine University men's soccer players received All-Midwest Region recognition from the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association.
Senior forward
Tomas Bernedo, junior midfielder
Micah Linscott and junior defender
Eddie Williamson garnered first-team plaudits while senior defender
Chris Hunt and sophomore goalkeeper
Connor Range reaped second-team accolades in voting conducted by the region's sports information directors.
Bernedo recently was acknowledged as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year. A unanimous first-team All-GLVC selection, Bernedo is leading Bellarmine in goals (13) and points (33) while tying for third in assists (seven). The native of Santiago, Chile has recorded six game-winning goals and tallied two goals and four assists in the Knights' GLVC Tournament title-winning run.
The D2CCA voted Linscott onto the first team for the second consecutive year. Also a first-team All-GLVC pick, Linscott is second on the Knights in goals (10), assists (eight) and points (28). The Radcliff, Kentucky native posted a hat trick in Bellarmine's GLVC Tournament quarterfinal win over Lindenwood and notched an assist in all three tourney victories.
Williamson's first-team All-Midwest Region nod came after the center back earned first-team All-GLVC notice. The large impact the native of Stockholm, Sweden makes isn't limited to his work on the back line — Williamson has registered five goals and four assists, numbers most full-time attacking players would embrace. He struck once again on a set piece in the GLVC Tournament finals, equalizing the match against No. 24 McKendree at 1-1 en route to the 3-2 win.
It took a while, but Hunt is finally raking in long-deserved recognition his senior season. A career starter at right back, the native of Lexington, Kentucky can add All-Region acclaim to his first-team All-GLVC award. The electric defender has played an integral role in a Bellarmine defense that has allowed only 15 goals in 20 matches.
Range was a second-team All-GLVC selection and equaled that in the All-Region voting. The St. Louis native boasts a 0.70 goals-against average with six shutouts. He's earned the decision in every contest, matching the team record of 16-0-4 entering the NCAA Tournament.
Lake Erie's Jonathon Carr was voted Midwest Region Player of the Year.
