LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's basketball team has been awarded the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Midwest Regional, it was announced Sunday night by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee.
Lewis, the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season champion, earned the top seed and will host the Midwest Regional. Ranked 11th nationally, Bellarmine (26-4) will face seven-seed Walsh (24-7) in the opening round on Saturday. The Cavaliers won the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament championship after upsetting Findlay 58-52 in overtime.
Bellarmine captured its third straight GLVC Tournament title Sunday after defeating Drury 65-48. The Knights will enter the NCAA Tournament on a five-game winning streak. The appearance will mark Bellarmine's 11th straight in the "Big Dance."
In Saturday's other NCAA Midwest Region quarterfinals, top-seeded Lewis (24-5) will meet eight-seed Grand Valley State (19-12), four-seed Southern Indiana (22-8) will face five-seed Ashland (23-6) and three-seed Findlay (27-4) will battle six-seed Drury (21-11).
The Midwest Region semifinals are scheduled for Sunday and the final is slated for Tuesday, March 19.
