LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With COVID-19 putting fall sports on the shelf this season, the Bellarmine Athletics Communication staff is using part of this time to shine the spotlight on some of the top student-athletes of the past 10 years by naming the Bellarmine All-Decade teams. The teams recognize student-athletes who competed for the Knights at least two seasons from the 2010-11 school year to the 2019-20 year.
Today, we name the Bellarmine All-Decade Team for Men's Tennis, which consists of six players.
Alan Gardiner (2011-15)
Gardiner is tied for fifth all-time in program history with 67 career wins. The Canadian product of Winnipeg, Manitoba, ranks seventh in both career singles wins (31) and doubles victories (36). His 26 wins in 2012-13 are tied for ninth all-time in a single season. Gardiner's eight-match doubles win streak in 2012-13 is tied for a program record.
Gardiner earned the GLVC Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award (exhaust eligibility while maintaining 3.5 cumulative GPA) and was an Academic All-GLVC mainstay.
Zachary Kuo (2013-17)
Kuo was one of three Knights to earn All-GLVC accolades in the decade. The native of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is the program's all-time leader in doubles wins (49) and is tied for second in total wins (89).
As a senior, Kuo piled up 33 wins, which ranks second for a single season in program history. His 17 doubles victories that season are tied for first and his 16 singles wins are tied for third. Kuo and Jose Legarreta are the program's winningest doubles team after amassing 46 victories together, including a program-record 17 in 2016-17.
Jacob Knagenhjelm (2009-13)
Knagenhjelm is fourth all-time in career wins with 76. The native of Pixbo, Sweden, ranks third in singles wins (41) and is tied for eighth in doubles victories (35).
As a senior, Knagenhjelm racked up 27 wins, including 14 singles victories, with both marks tied for seventh all-time for a single season. He and Carlos Antonioli are the third-winningest doubles team in program history with 26 victories together.
Knagenhjelm earned the GLVC Council of Presidents Academic Excellence Award and was an Academic All-GLVC fixture.
Jose Legarreta (2013-17)
Legarreta is tied for second on the program's all-time wins list with 89. The native of Madrid, Spain, ranks second in both singles victories (42) and doubles wins (47).
Legarreta's 32 wins as a senior are third all-time for a single season, and his 17 doubles wins that year are tied for first. He and Zachary Kuo are the program's winningest doubles team with 46 victories together, including a program-record 17 in 2016-17.
Igal Mostkov (2011-13)
Mostkov was one of only three Knights to earn All-GLVC recognition in the decade, doing so in 2013. That season, the Canadian product of Winnipeg, Manitoba, went 14-8 in singles play largely at No. 2, including 4-1 in the GLVC. He tacked on 10 more wins at No. 1 doubles, including three in GLVC competition.
Mostkov was an Academic All-GLVC honoree in both his seasons at Bellarmine.
Anton Rabinov (2011-15)
Rabinov was the program's most highly decorated player in the decade. The native of Petach Tiqwa, Israel, earned All-GLVC accolades in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Rabinov's 92 total wins are a program record, as are his 55 career singles wins.
In Rabinov's three seasons at Bellarmine, he went 18-6, 24-5 and 13-2 in singles play. The 24- and 18-win campaigns rank 1-2 for a single season in program history. Rabinov ranks third in career doubles wins with 40, including 15 in 2012-13, which is tied for third most all-time for a single season.
