LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine Field Hockey Coach
Devanny Boisvert has announced that
Kara Guess,
Teresa Schmidt, and
Cassidy Sweeney will serve as captains for the 2020-21 year.
Selected by their teammates and coaching staff, Boisvert said, "all three of these young ladies bring a different skill set that I think will make a positive impact on our team. Not only are they competitive and dedicated to the program but their teammates think highly of them. I believe they are the perfect fit to help lead us to our first season at the division I level.
Guess is a senior defender from Louisville. "I am really proud of the leadership qualities that Kara has exemplified since our spring season," Boisvert said. "She has done a great job at holding her teammates accountable and leading the defensive unit. I am excited to see her step into this role for her senior season."
Schmidt, who is from St. Louis, is a sophomore midfielder. Boisvert said of Schmidt's selection as a captain, "Even though she is only a sophomore, Teresa has earned a leadership role on this team. She leads by example, works exceptionally hard at practice and brings a positive sense of energy. She is definitely up to the challenge of being a part of this leadership group."
Sweeney is a junior midfielder from Louisville. "Cass played a pivotal role in our midfield last season and has continued to learn how to be a strong leader while taking on leadership responsibilities," Boisvert said. "She has an intense presence about herself, holds herself and others to a high standard and pushes her teammates to the limit."
Although COVID-19 claimed the fall 2020 season for the Knights, Bellarmine—which will join the MAC next fall—has a14-game schedule planned for the spring.
