LOUISIVLLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine Knights softball team has a pair of in-region road doubleheaders planned for Spring Break Week. On Sunday, the Knights travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio Dominican Panthers at 1 p.m. Bellarmine will then take the short trip to Frankfort to face the Kentucky State Thorobreds in a twin bill on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Bellarmine starts the week 7-9 with 12 of its 16 games coming in neutral site contests. Offensively, freshman
Alexis Hargrove is leading the way for the Knights, hitting at a .460 clip while smacking four homers and driving in a team-best 24 runs. Sophomore
Grace Werner also is batting above the .400 plateau at .444, and she's the Bellarmine leader in runs scored with 20 and stolen bases with six.
Other top producers at the plate include
Alyssa Brock,
Shelby Kelley, and
Sarah Ratterman, who are all hitting in the .340s. Senior
Sabrina Fussenegger also has been an effective "table setter" from her lead off position with an on-base percentage of .446, which is helped along by her propensity to get hit by pitches. So far this season, she's been plunked a nation-leading 14 times.
Defensively, the Knights have been solid, posting a team fielding percentage of .957. In the circle, Bellarmine is coming off a pair of solid pitching performances by
Olivia Knies and Kelley. Knies is the team's leader in earned run average at 2.26 while Kelley is the wins leader with three.
Ohio Dominican is 4-6 on the year, but is coming off a big win, taking down the 10th-ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds 5-4. The Panthers are being led by junior Carson Hackerd with a .417 average while teammate Raemon Meents is batting .429 in her 14 at-bats.
Kentucky State is 3-5 on the season with four of the losses coming to Division I teams. The Thorobreds, who have won their last three games, are being led by Moana Pinner's .429 batting average with Kailen Olison hitting .400.
