LOUISVILLE, Ky. — She may no longer be playing for Cor Jesu Academy, but the prep awards are still rolling in for Teresa Schmidt.

Now a Bellarmine University sophomore midfielder, Schmidt was recognized by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as a member of its "All-Decade field hockey second team."

"I was absolutely surprised," Schmidt said. "I did not know that they were even making an All-Decade team, and one of my club teammates was the one to tell me. I was so honored to be on the list along with so many talented players I looked up to."

Schmidt was a four-year starter for Cor Jesu Academy, racking up 15 goals and 20 assists as the Post-Dispatch praised her as "an excellent two-way player." The newspaper had identified her as a 2018 "Player to Watch" and she backed up that assessment by earning first-team All-Conference and first-team All-State honors as a senior. Schmidt also garnered first-team All-Conference accolades as a junior.

"My high school experience was awesome and I am so grateful for the education I received along with the unmatched team experience," Schmidt said. "I think that my high school team is what really set me up as a player now and gave me the values of team chemistry and hard work."

A team captain as a senior, Schmidt helped lead Cor Jesu Academy to three Final Four appearances in the Midwest Tournament, including a state runner-up finish her sophomore year. The team averaged 15 wins per season in that span.

"My favorite memory from high school was most definitely the state semifinals my sophomore year," Schmidt said. "We were tied 1-1 and got a penalty corner with no time on the clock, and my teammate Molly shot a laser into the goal to send us to the state finals."

Schmidt made an immediate impact as a freshman at Bellarmine. She started all 18 matches and registered four goals and one assist while being named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
