LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Head Coach Tim Chastonay has announced that Mike Goetz has joined the Bellarmine University men's soccer staff as an assistant.

Goetz has over 20 years of coaching experience across youth, high school and adult levels. He most recently served as an assistant at Trinity (Ky.) High School, where he helped lead the program to three straight KHSAA regional titles (2013-15) and numerous national accolades, compiling an overall record of 63-8-3.

"I am looking forward to Mike joining our program as we move to NCAA DI," Chastonay said. "He brings a good deal of knowledge and experience that will certainly benefit the players and coaches on the field. More importantly, he has a passion for using his skills to help our players succeed in life off the field."

Goetz' son, Drew, is a fifth-year senior for Bellarmine this season and played a pivotal role on last year's historic 16-1-5 squad that captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the DII NCAA Tournament. Goetz has also coached current Knights Greg Fischer and Tanner Stevens along with 2019 senior twin brothers Donald and Gilio Aviles.

"I am excited to be joining the accomplished staff of Bellarmine men's soccer," Goetz said. "Coach Chastonay has built a program of distinction and to be part of the transition to NCAA DI is a dream appointment. I'm proud to be part of a community that values life-long learning, and it always strives to build leaders both on and off the field of play. I look forward to working with the staff, student-athletes, faculty and administration to help Bellarmine University reach new heights of prominence."

A leukemia survivor, Goetz is passionate about mental performance and sports psychology. He has worked since 2017 with former English Premier League and Northern Ireland International player Paul McVeigh to deliver mental performance training with college, university and soccer clubs throughout the United States.

An alumnus of Brescia University, Goetz earned a bachelor's degree in English and was a member of its soccer program (1986-89), where he received the Coach's and 110% awards during his playing career.

Goetz resides in Louisville with his wife Julie. He has four kids: Jack, Emma, Drew (BU' 2020) and Mary Claire.
