LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Bellarmine field hockey hosts Central Michigan this Friday coming off its first ever Division I conference win at Ball State last week.
Friday's game, beginning at 1:00 p.m., will be Bellarmine's final contest at Trager Stadium this fall. The Senior Day game and season finale will take place at Frazier Stadium in a non-conference matchup with Saint Francis University on Oct. 31.
Last Meeting with Central Michigan
On March 13 in the spring season, the Knights fell to CMU 5-2. It was the second meeting between Bellarmine and the Chippewas in as many days. Central Michigan won the previous matchup 4-3, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter that day. In the last matchup,
Lindsay Sturgeon scored her first DI goal in the fourth minute, while
Amber Hofenk Jerembo tallied a goal in the 39
th minute. Hofenk Jerembo also scored the previous day, giving her two goals in two games against CMU this spring.
Central Michigan This Season
The Chippewas are 3-10 this season and are tied with Bellarmine at 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference. The record is slightly deceiving as CMU has lost five games by just one goal. Central's top win came at home against No. 23 Kent State on Sept. 24 by a final score of 1-0. That is Kent State's only MAC loss this season. The Chippewas also hung tough at pre-season favorite Miami OH, falling 3-2 in overtime. CMU's last two matches resulted in a 4-0 loss versus No. 1 Iowa and 2-1 overtime defeat against Ohio.
Central has struggled offensively, scoring a total of 14 goals this season, and generating the fewest shots in the MAC (seven per game). CMU is a little stronger defensively, ranking fifth in the MAC in goals allowed through 13 games (40).
Junior forward Rachel Ruttenberg leads Central Michigan with three goals this season, while sophomore Kate Biglin has dished out the most assists with three. Senior back Allaura Bohan has scored two goals and produced a team-high three defensive saves.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Maxim has a 2.98 GAA with a .728 save percentage this season. Her mark of 7.27 saves per game ranks fourth in the nation.
Knights Notes
The Knights are 2-11 this year with both wins coming against Ball State. With the first meeting classified as a non-conference game, Bellarmine is 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
Bellarmine is currently experiencing its best offensive stretch in the DI era based on goal output. The Knights have scored at least two goals in their last three games, including four at Ohio on Oct. 8.
Hofenk Jerembo has scored a goal in each of her last two games and four in her last six contests. She leads the Knights with five goals this season.
Teresa Schmidt picked up her second assist in the last three games at Ball State last week. She tops the Knights with four assists this year.
Anna Crump has fired 10 shots over the last three games, and scored three goals, marking the best offensive stretch of her career.
Goalkeeper
