ORLANDO, Fla. — The Bellarmine University women's cross country team had a pair of top-35 finishers Saturday morning in the ASUN Championship at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

Sophomore Justice Pohlman-Singleton placed a team-best 30th and junior Emma Wells followed closely in 33rd for Bellarmine. Pohlman-Singleton's time of 18:17.1 and Wells' mark of 18:19.2 rank 29th and 33rd, respectively, in the program record book in the 5k.

Junior Anna Wells (18:44.4) came next for Bellarmine in 46th and was followed in the Knights' top 5 by senior Lauren Masden (18:46.3) in 49th and junior Ellie Schroeder (18:55.5) in 57th.

Also competing for Bellarmine were sophomore Chloe Powell (65th, 19:14.5), freshman Hannah Ellis (75th, 19:33.8), senior Morgan Kannapel (84th, 19:53.7) and freshman Erin Luckett (90th, 20:11.4).

Bellarmine (201) placed eighth out of 12 teams.

"The women ran a very good late-stage race and several of them ran PRs," Knights Coach Angela Hapner Musk said, "but we failed to execute the race plan early on. I told them if it didn't go out really fast, with the top 5 or 6 women breaking away, to get near the top 30 right away. That is how the race ran and needed our top 7 to be positioned in the top 35-ish at the start and ready to move up. But they passed me about a half mile in back in the 50-60 spots and didn't get up from there quickly enough to respond when 1-20 and 21-35 started to break away half a kilometer later.

"They moved up a lot in the middle phase, but by the late phase, there were gaps that had formed ahead of them that were too big to bridge. It was a good learning experience, and I'm not disappointed. I will likely make alterations to some training for next year to get them more ready for this kind of race."

Liberty repeated as team champion with 36, while Lipscomb (48) was the runner-up. Liberty's Calli Doan (16:57.4) was the individual champion.
