LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Chris Tinius has resigned as the head coach of the Bellarmine University women's soccer team, Director of Athletics
Scott Wiegandt announced Thursday.
Bellarmine full-time assistant coach
Callie McKinney will serve as the interim head coach until a permanent replacement is named.
Tinius recently concluded his eighth season at Bellarmine, the last two of which came at the Division-I level. He finished his career with the Knights with a 79-38-33 record.
"I want to start by thanking
Scott Wiegandt, (Deputy Director of Athletics/SWA)
Pam Stackhouse, (Assistant AD for Communication)
John Spugnardi and (Men's Soccer Head Coach)
Tim Chastonay, who were on the committee that gave me this opportunity eight years go," Tinius said. "It is one that truly changed my life on and off the field. I've had the pleasure of working with and around so many wonderful people at Bellarmine and moving to Louisville led to me meeting my wife and starting a family. Those are true blessings."
Before Bellarmine's transition to D1 in 2020-21, Tinius guided the Knights to three appearances in the NCAA II Tournament, highlighted by a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2015 that followed a GLVC regular-season title. That season Tinius was named GLVC Coach of the Year and Midwest Region Coach of the Year.
"I want to thank all of the current and former players, coaches and support staff that contributed to our success on the field and in the classroom," Tinius said. "I would stack the combination of those two up against any program in the country. That includes players and staff that came before me. It is not lost on me that I was afforded the opportunity to build on a wonderful foundation. I also think that is what we have in place right now for somebody to come in and take the final steps in this transition to Division I."
