Knights, Utes to meet at Frazier Stadium for first time on Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky.-The Bellarmine Knights will welcome the Utah Utes to Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on Saturday at noon in their home opener.

Bellarmine and Utah have met each of the three seasons since Utah became a DI program. The first two meetings were in Utah and the Utes took both contests, winning 10-9 in 2019 and 16-10 last season.

The Knights come into this contest after defeating Mercer 9-7 in Macon, Georgia last week. It was the first season-opening victory for the Knights since 2016. Utah is coming off a 9-8 defeat at No. 5 Denver.

Jesse Roth led the Knights' offense in that contests with two goals. Brayden Brown also recorded one goal and one assist. Eric Rubak provided a lift on both ends of the field for the Knights last game, scoring two goals while also scooping up six ground balls and causing three turnovers.

Jon Robbins led the Knights in caused turnovers (5) in their opener and collected three ground balls. Ian Reilly got the start in cage and made 10 saves in the win last week.

Utah is one of the youngest teams in the country with a roster of 25 freshmen, 17 sophomores, and only two upperclassmen.

In their opener, Tyler Bradbury led the Utes with three goals and two assists. Jordan Hyde also had two goals and Cole Brams went 12-for-20 at the faceoff dot and scored a goal.

Defensively, LSM Sammy Cambere was the leader for Utah in their season opener last week. Cambere caused two turnovers, scooped up four ground balls, and scored one goal. Zack Johns got the start in cage and made 16 saves last week against Denver.

Following Saturday's contest, Bellarmine will hit the road for a midweek contest against Jacksonville on Wednesday.

With COVID protocols in place, only 265 fans will be allowed to attend games in person at Frazier Stadium this year. Tickets will be sold on day of game only to eliminate "no shows."
