LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Although it wasn't officially a home event, it probably felt that way for the Bellarmine women's golf team as it competed at the Nevel Meade Collegiate in Prospect, Kentucky on Monday and Tuesday.  The Knights finished ninth in the 11-team field of the 54-hole event hosted by Cleveland State University.

Youngstown State took home the team championship with a score of 891, which was 12 shots ahead of runner-up Oakland University.  Amalia Shahzan of Oakland fnished at 217 (+1) to clip teammate Veronica Haque and Youngstown's Puthita Khuanrudee by one shot for medalist honors.

The Knights shot 968 as a team and were paced by freshman Josephine Bonin, who finished at 235 after rounds of 81, 76, and 78.  The highlight of the tourney for Bellarmine was Monday's second round, when the Knights posted a team score of 313, which is not only a season low, but ranks as the fourth-best 18-hole score in program history.  Helping pave the way to that score was Alaina Schmitt, who fired the Knights' low round of the tourney--and her personal best round--a 73.  Also competing for Bellarmine at the Nevel Meade event were Olivia Pennybaker, Caroline McCrorey, Jessica Stephens and Kyleigh Leaf.

Bellarmine will stay close by for its next competition, which comes March 29-30 at the Northern Kentucky University Collegiate Classic.  That event will be played at Lassing Pointe Golf Club in Union Kentucky.
