LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team will shift back to nonconference play when the Knights travel to IUPUI for a 7 p.m. (ET) contest Tuesday.

The matchup is one of three non-ASUN games remaining for Bellarmine (3-2-1).

LAST TIME OUT
Bellarmine opened ASUN play Saturday night with a 2-1 loss in overtime to No. 22 Lipscomb at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Sophomore forward Nolan McGrath scored the tying goal for the Knights in the 70th minute after unbeaten Lipscomb got on the board in the first half. The Bisons netted the golden goal with only 15 seconds left in overtime.

Bellarmine had some near misses, particularly early, and Lipscomb had its share as well, making for an engaging contest throughout between the Atlantic Region's No. 1 and No. 6 teams.

"I was proud of our performance on Saturday night against Lipscomb," Knights Coach Tim Chastonay said. "It was a great college soccer game and definitely showed the team is progressing in certain areas. The guys prepared well all week and executed the game plan. Unfortunately, we did not get the result, so it gives us some areas to concentrate on at training."

ABOUT IUPUI
IUPUI is off to a solid start, carrying a 2-2-1 record over its first five matches. The Jaguars posted consecutive 1-0 wins over Western Illinois and Wright State before falling 1-0 at UIC on Saturday, with the two most recent games coming in Horizon League play.

IUPUI also played to a scoreless draw with Bowling Green to open the season before dropping a 3-1 contest at Xavier. The Jaguars have recorded three shutouts overall and allowed just one goal over their last three games. They entered the season with all 11 starters and all 21 letter winners back.

"IUPUI looks like a very good team," Chastonay said. "They have played a very hard schedule and have some results against good opponents. It's a team that works very hard, and they are difficult to break down. They have some good attacking players, and we will have to be at our best on Tuesday."

BACK AND FORTH
One big difference between Division I and Division II for Bellarmine is that the Knights' ASUN schedule is also intertwined with nonconference games.

Starting with IUPUI, there will be three weeks over the remainder of the season where Bellarmine plays a weekday nonconference contest before a weekend ASUN clash. That wasn't the case in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, where play was exclusive to league games once conference action started.

"One of the bigger challenges from moving NCAA D2 to NCAA D1 will be the nonconference games in the midweek between conference opponents," Chastonay said. "We never had these games back when we were in the GLVC. These games will definitely test our depth, and it will give some additional players a chance to perform."
