LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team will look to extend its Division-I era program-record winning streak of four games when the Knights welcome Stetson for an ASUN matchup at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
This will be the second meeting between Bellarmine (6-3-1, 2-2 ASUN) and Stetson (3-2-4, 2-1-1) in the D1 era. In the 2021 regular season, the Hatters captured a 4-2 victory in DeLand, Florida, with the four goals being the most the Knights have allowed in three seasons in D1.
In ASUN competition, Stetson has recorded 2-0 wins over Queens and North Florida, dropped a 3-1 contest against Central Arkansas and, most recently, played to a 2-2 draw at Liberty. The Hatters' seven points entering ASUN weekend action places them third in the league standings — Bellarmine is right behind in fourth with six points.
Stetson's offense ranks third in the ASUN with 14 goals. Gio Rodriguez has scored four times, but nine other Hatters have found the net at least once. This is very similar to Bellarmine's offensive output: Junior forward
Nolan McGrath has collected four goals and eight other Knights have scored once.
Bellarmine's four-game winning streak, which includes a 1-0 league victory at Jacksonville and a 1-0 ASUN home triumph over FGCU, is the longest in the D1 era, as is the Knights' four-game shutout streak. Those four clean sheets tie their total from last season.
Bellarmine is coming off a 2-0 nonconference home win over USI, its former archrival in D2's GLVC. The victory over the Screaming Eagles saw several "firsts." Senior defender
Jackson Kirn scored his first career goal and senior midfielder
Rahim Shalash registered his first career assist. Senior midfielder
Camden Dunne's goal was his first career game-winner.
Bellarmine's defense has climbed to second in the ASUN in shutouts (four) and third in goals-against average (1.00).
