LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After a very successful opening tournament for the Bellarmine wrestling team, the Knights continue their stretch of non-conference invitationals this weekend.
Bellarmine is set to compete in the Bob Del Rosa Intercollegiate Open on Sunday in Cleveland, Ohio. The invitational will be hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
Last weekend, Bellarmine posted the best win percentage out of any of the thirty teams competing in the Pepsi Patriot Open. The Knights showcased their depth with 18 wrestlers racking up wins a freshman/sophomore division and open division. Bellarmine was also without multiple team members due to the finish of the sprint football season. Still, the Knights totaled 53 victories and six champions in their weight classes:
Damion Ryan (125),
Trayce Eckman &
Michael Schiffhauer (133),
Darian Huff (174),
Kennedy Wyatt (184), and
Thaddeus Huff (Heavyweight).
"Man, what a day," Knights Head Coach
Ned Shuck said after last Saturday's invitational. "We wanted to see fireworks from our guys, and they delivered! I'm so proud of the fight they had, and seeing them execute the skill sets they've been working hard at in the room. We can't wait to get back with them to build off of so many positives. The success is something we will celebrate shortly and continue to strive for more of as the competition continues to get stiffer."
The Bob Del Rosa Intercollegiate Open begins at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday at Case Western Reserve University.
