LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the first time this season, the Bellarmine wrestling team is set to compete at home. The Knights will face the Lindenwood Lions on Wednesday night in their home opener with the action beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside Knights Hall.
Bellarmine last competed on Nov. 19
th at the Lindenwood Open and used the last ten days to rest, practice, and prepare for the team's first dual of the year. BU has only added depth since the first two weeks of the season, as multiple wrestlers finished their sprint football season and returned to the mat. Senior
Devan Hendricks and freshman
Royce Hall both competed in sprint football this fall and are expected to play key roles on the team starting Wednesday.
Plenty of Bellarmine's roster received action, however, in three invitationals to open the season. Most recently, ten Knights wrestled at the Lindenwood Open and three came away with second place finishes.
Freshman
Shay Korhorn (133) went 3-1, with three victories by decision, on his way to second place. Sophomore
Cole Nance (165) battled to a 4-1 record with a pair of pins, and ultimately earned second place in his weight class. Sophomore
Jack Parker (125) also claimed second place after going 3-1 with a pair of major decision wins.
Nance leads Bellarmine with 12 wins this season, while
Michael Schiffhauer has 11 victories and Parker has 10 wins.
Trayce Eckman is unbeaten at 3-0 this year, while
Thadd Huff has a team-best seven pins out of nine total victories.
Wednesday marks Bellarmine's second ever meeting with Lindenwood and first matchup with the Lions in Division I. In last season's home opener, the Knights bested SIU-Edwardsville 19-18 in thrilling fashion.
Wednesday's dual can be viewed on BU Knights Sports Network.
