ALLENDALE, Mich. —
D.K. Schnieders set a new men's freshman program record in the 5000 as the Bellarmine University track and field teams competed Friday at the GVSU Big Meet.
Schnieders posted a time of 14:58.58 in the 5000 to top the 15:14.98 of
Nick Lewis set at last season's ASUN Indoor Championship. Freshman
Ryan Burchett bested the previous mark as well after finishing in 15:02.27.
There were several heats in the 5000. Freshmen
Hunter Griffin,
Austin Pulkowski and
Matthew Wantland placed third, fifth and 14th in their 29-member heat. Lewis finished fourth out of 28 in another, and sophomore
Josh Smalley took 13th out of 26 in yet another group.
In the women's 5000, junior
Anna Wells placed fourth out of 27 in her heat, while junior
Emma Wells finished fourth of 21 in her 3000 heat.
Senior
Lauren Masden finished in the top half of the 76-member mile in 27th, while sophomore
Kendal Gibbons was in the top tier in the triple jump after placing sixth.
The GVSU Big Meet was Bellarmine's final event before the ASUN Championship, which takes place Feb. 25-26 at host Liberty.
