LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University swimming flexed its muscle in its 2023-24 home debut, capturing gold in 16 of 22 events in a double dual against Valparaiso and Eastern Illinois on Saturday at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.
Bellarmine's men secured gold in nine events. Junior
John Paul Metzner claimed firsts in the 50 freestyle (21.79) and 100 butterfly (50.82).
Freshman
Brady Campbell touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle (10:04.19), as did freshman
Evan Dickson in the 200 freestyle (1:44.10), freshman
Colin Jackson in the 100 freestyle (48.73), sophomore
Blake Whiteley in the 100 backstroke (53.90) and sophomore
Sam Jones in the 500 freestyle (4:46.92).
Senior
Kenton Whiteley, senior
Andrew Nguyen, Metzner and
Blake Whiteley topped the 200 medley relay (1:36.21), as did senior
Keegan Henderson, sophomore
Cason Henderson, Dickson and sophomore
Caleb Howard in the 400 freestyle relay.
On the women's side, freshman
Charlotte Tully secured gold in the 400 IM (4:47.69) and 100 backstroke (1:00.10). Freshman
Lily Wolfe did the same in the 200 freestyle (1:59.50) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.95).
Junior
Johnnise Garcia touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle (11:13.78), as did junior
Alexandra Pierce in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.09).
Sophomore
Lauren Diercks, Pierce, senior
Megan McEwen and senior
Liz Stevenson won the 200 medley relay (1:51.06).
