ALLENDALE, Mich. — Bellarmine University track and field concluded the indoor regular season Friday and Saturday by breaking several program records at the GVSU Big Meet.

The new program benchmarks were:
  • Jackson Gordon set a new overall program record and broke his own freshman mark in Friday's 800 after placing ninth in 1:52.53. Thomas Cave had held the previous record (1:52.96) since 2015; ironically, it also came at the GVSU Big Meet.
  • Alex Cole set a new overall record and shattered his own freshman mark in the weight throw after placing fifth with a toss of 17.27. Elliot Mattingly held the previous record (17.14) since 2009.
  • Paul Stamm set new overall and freshman records in the 5000 after placing eighth in 14:14.68. Chris Striegel, also at the GVSU Big Meet, had held the previous mark (14:37.98) since 2016. Junior Nick Lewis topped the prior record as well (14:29.68).
  • Sloan Cox broke his own overall and freshman records in the shot put after placing first in 16.93, which bested his previous mark of 16.64 from Jan. 14 at the Cardinal Classic.
  • Gordon, freshman Chase Atkins and sophomores Trevor Holbrook and Nolan Hester set a new record in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:53.76. Nate Dotterweich, Jared Findlater, Sean Klosterman and Robert Sandlin had owned the previous mark (9:55.8) since 2013.
Sierra Oesterling came within a whisker of setting a new women's freshman program record in the mile (Caitlin Carroll, 5:09.80, 2015) after placing 14th in 5:10.57.

In one of the top heats of the 5000, senior Emma Wells placed sixth. Sophomore Chloe Freilinger and senior Katrina Kamarute finished second and sixth, respectively, in the 400.

Freshman Alex Hooten placed eighth in Saturday's men's 800.

Bellarmine will compete Feb. 24-25 in the ASUN Indoor Championship hosted by Liberty.
