LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Bellarmine University track and field teams swept the top finishes in the 400 preliminaries to highlight the first day of action in the ASUN Indoor Championship on Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
Bellarmine's women actually finished 1-2 in the 400 prelims as sophomore
Chloe Freilinger took first (55.95) and senior
Katrina Kamarute placed second (56.11).
On the men's side, freshman
Jackson Gordon topped the 400 prelims in 48.21. Sophomore
Trevor Holbrook placed sixth (48.90) and junior
Ike Boling was eighth (49.10) as a Knights trio qualified for the 400 finals. Freshman
Zander Hooten advanced to the finals of the 60 hurdles after placing sixth (8.33) in the prelims.
Senior
Emma Wells scored in the women's 5000 after placing seventh (17:22.83, 2 points). Freshman
Paul Stamm and junior
Nick Lewis did the same in the men's 5000 after finishing seventh (14:23.32, 2 points) and eighth (14:31.86, 1 point), respectively.
Bellarmine's men added five points with a fourth-place finish (10:00.04) in the distance medley relay behind Gordon, Holbrook, freshman
Chase Atkins and sophomore
Nolan Hester.
Bellarmine's women earned a point in the distance medley relay as sophomore
Madison Adkins, junior
Olivia Brown, freshman
Kylah Brooks and sophomore
Hannah Ellis took eighth (12:30.68).
Bellarmine's men are sixth with eight points. Kennesaw State leads with 71. The Knights women are tied for 10th with three points. Liberty is the leader with 84.
The second and final day of the ASUN Championship will begin at 8:30 a.m. (ET) Saturday.
