OWENS CROSS ROADS, Ala.—The Bellarmine University women's golf team concluded its 2022-23 season with a 12th place finish at the ASUN Conference Championship, which was held Sunday through Tuesday at the RTJ Trail at Hampton Cove.
 
The Knights posted a second round score of 304 in the 54-hole tourney but bookended that with rounds of 316 and 317 to finish at 937 on the par-72 layout.
 
Bellarmine's second round 304 tied for the fourth-best team 18-hole score of the year and also was the fourth-best score in the tournament on Monday.
 
The team competition was a tight, exciting race to the finish with four teams within two shots of the lead in the final nine holes.  Lipscomb emerged victorious, scoring a two-shot victory over Central Arkansas.  The Bisons posted a final round 295 to finish at 904 (+40).
 
Lauren Thompson of Lipscomb birdied her 53rd hole then closed with a par to win the individual title with a closing 2-under-par round of 70 for a 218 (+2) aggregate score to nip Claire Vermette of Jacksonville State and Christin Eisenbeiss of North Florida by one shot.
 
The low Knight for the championship was Alaina Schmitt, who finished T-18 in the 65-player field after carding rounds of 76, 72 and 80 (228).   Schmitt also finished the year with Bellarmine's lowest stroke average at 76.57, which is second-best in school history. 
 
The remaining four players who competed at the ASUN all finished the year within one stroke of another for second on the team.  Jessica Stephens finished the year at 80.1, and she was followed by Elizabeth Duncan (80.38), Josephine Bonin (80.86) and Piper Davis (81.0). 
 
At the ASUN Championship, Bonin placed second on the team after getting better each round with scores of 82, 77, and 76 (235).  Duncan and Davis tied at 240 while Stephens finished at 242.
