PADUCAH, Ky.—The Bellarmine women's golf team brought home a fifth place finish at The Velvet, the 12-team Murray State tournament held in honor of former coach Velvet Milkman and played at the Country Club of Paducah on Monday and Tuesday.
Individually,
Alaina Schmitt also notched a fifth place finish with an aggregate score of 229 after rounds of 74, 78 and 77. It was Schmitt's second consecutive top five finish and the third of her collegiate career.
Belmont University claimed the team title, edging out the host Racers by two shots. Belmont's Chloe Tarkany bested Murray's Payton Carter on the first hole of a playoff for medalist honors after that duo tied at 226 (+10).
Bellarmine posted rounds of 318, 310, and 322 to finish with an aggregate score of 950, two shots clear of sixth place Evansville.
Also registering an individual top 25 finish in the field of 67 was Bellarmine's
Matti Spalding, who shot rounds of 79, 79, and 81 to finish in a tie for 22nd.
