LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University swim teams will open the 2023-24 season Sunday at the Butler Double Dual at Fishers High School in Fishers, Indiana.

Action in the pool is set to begin at noon (ET). In addition to Butler and Bellarmine, Xavier, St. Louis and IUPUI are slated to have competitors.

Bellarmine is entering its first season under new Head Coach Gord Veldman, a veteran assistant who was promoted after the retirement of the Knights' founding head coach and program builder John Brucato.

This season will also mark Bellarmine's first in the Atlantic Sun Conference, which is a new sponsor of swimming (the majority of BU's teams are ASUN affiliated). Previously, the Knights competed in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association.

Last season, sophomore Sam Jones set new men's program records in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle and nearly medaled in the 500 freestyle at the CCSA Championships while placing fourth. The record-holding 800 freestyle relay team of Jones, senior Greyson Williams, senior Kenton Whiteley and junior Brandon Thomas are all back.

Senior Keegan Henderson was a member of last season's record-breaking 400 freestyle relay team, and junior John Paul Metzner was a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that set a new program standard. Thomas placed top 10 in the 400 IM and 100 breaststroke and Metzner did as well in the 200 butterfly at the CCSA Championships.

Last season, sophomore Lauren Diercks set a new women's program record in the 100 backstroke, while junior Alexandra Pierce established a new benchmark in the 200 IM.

In addition to the aforementioned men's members, seniors include Tyler Diercks, Nicholas Green, Andrew Nguyen and Carter Reynolds; the juniors are Matt Carrico and Tanner Dunn; sophomores include Liam Connelly, Cason Henderson, Caleb Howard, Brady Koval, Anthony Nasrallah, Jack Proctor, Blake Whiteley and Drew Wolfram; and the freshmen are Brady Campbell, Evan Dickson, Colin Jackson, Evan Jones, Reece Pennington and Parker Tanke.

In addition to the aforementioned women's members, seniors include Morgan Bender, Mackenzie Conger, Emily Kuprion, Grace Lough, Megan McEwen, Caroline McMillin, Ashley Owen and Liz Stevenson and Megan Wills; Johnnise Garcia is a junior; sophomores include Luiza Bonardi and Lauren Peters; and the freshmen are Coral Brogan, Molly Bryan, Charlotte Tully and Lilly Wolfe.
