LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team will shift back to nonconference action when the Knights face IUPUI at 3 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
Bellarmine (1-2-4) holds a 1-0-1 series lead over IUPUI (4-3-1) in the Division-I era. The Knights captured a 1-0 win at Michael A. Carroll Stadium in 2021 before the teams played to a scoreless tie last season in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
IUPUI is the third of four opponents from the Horizon League that Bellarmine faces this season. The Knights tied Purdue Fort Wayne 2-2 and Northern Kentucky 0-0 in back-to-back games Sept. 1 and 4. They'll also host Wright State on Oct. 10. BU has not lost to an opponent from the Horizon League in the D1 era, going 4-0-3 against the league.
IUPUI is the Horizon League co-leader with Purdue Fort Wayne. Both are 3-0 in conference action, with the Jaguars most recently compiling a 1-0 win at Robert Morris and a 2-1 home victory over Oakland. IUPUI's Josemir Gomez is tied for second in the league with four goals and is tied for first with two game-winning goals.
This nonconference match marks the first of a three-game road stretch for Bellarmine. The Knights follow with ASUN contests at Queens and FGCU. BU is coming off a heart-wrenching 3-2 loss to reigning ASUN champion Lipscomb in which the Bisons rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three goals in the last 13 minutes.
Brock Pope scored Bellarmine's first goal against Lipscomb and also scored the previous game in a 1-1 draw at ASUN foe Central Arkansas. A unanimous selection to the Preseason All-ASUN Team, the senior defender has two goals and two assists for a team-leading six points.
Jack Fischer had a big game against Lipscomb. The senior midfielder was a part of a double assist on the first goal and scored the second against the Bisons. It was his first career goal and seventh career assist. Fischer had a team-high five helpers last season and has two this year.
