MADISON, Ill.—Despite being a man down, the Bellarmine men's golf team was able to improve its position on the final day of the Dolenc Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Monday and Tuesday.
Led by sophomore
Luke Bischoff's four-under 67, the Knights closed with an even par round of 284 to improve two spots and finish 12th in the 16-team field. Bellarmine was forced to play with just four players on its 5-man roster after
Patrick Brooks grew ill and was forced to withdraw.
The host Cougars won the 54-hole event by 11 shots, navigating the Gateway National Golf Links in 34-under par. Dax Isbell of UT-Martin claimed medalist honors with rounds of 65, 68 and 64 to finish at 197 (-16).
Bischoff topped the Bellarmine list, finishing at two-under after rounds of 73, 71 and 67 to notch a tie for 18th in the 92-player field.
Davis Billows finished second for the Knights. After opening with back-to-back 71s, he closed with a 75 today.
Sophomore
Kash Albarado fired a final round 69 to shave 10 strokes off his second round and finish at 219 (+6).
Frankie Morgan also had a 10-stroke differential between rounds, opening with an 80 but carding a one-under 70 in Monday afternoon's round and closing with 73 today.
Although struggling with his health, Brooks was able to contribute a countable score (78) before having to withdraw, and
Bryce Beard also competed for the Knights, playing as an individual and carding rounds of 80, 83, and 79.
Bellarmine's next action comes Oct. 2 and 3 at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tennessee.
