LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University swimming made a triumphant return to the pool Saturday, as the women's and men's squads combined to place first in 14 of 22 events against Evansville at Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center.
Bellarmine swept the event, with the women winning 123-71 and the men 111.5-92.5.
Bellarmine was coming off a heavily focused period of training — the Knights were back in action after a break from competitive action since Nov. 11.
On the women's side, junior
Alexandra Pierce secured the gold in the 200 IM (2:09.73) and the 200 breaststroke (2:23.66). Freshman
Charlotte Tully also touched the wall first twice, winning the 200 freestyle (1:59.54) and 200 backstroke (2:11.22).
Freshman
Coral Brogan made it a trio with two golds, placing first in the 1000 freestyle (10:57.11) and 500 freestyle (5:20.21). Freshman
Lily Wolfe topped the field in the 200 butterfly (2:13.59), as did senior
Liz Stevenson in the 100 freestyle (55.25).
Junior
John Paul Metzner nabbed a pair of golds on the men's side, in the 50 freestyle (21.79) and 100 freestyle (47.87). Freshman
Evan Dickson topped the field in the 200 freestyle (1:44.41), as did sophomore
Cason Henderson in the 200 butterfly (1:57.26).
Sophomore
Sam Jones touched the wall first in the 500 freestyle (4:45.74), as did junior
Brandon Thomas in the 200 breaststroke (2:07.97).
Bellarmine will compete Jan. 20 at Xavier.
