Knights fighting for ASUN berth as they host FGCU, travel to Stetson

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's soccer team's ASUN Tournament fate will be decided this week.

Bellarmine (4-6-3, 1-3-1 ASUN) is set for its final two conference games, as the Knights will host FGCU (4-7-2, 3-1-1) at 12:30 p.m. (ET) Tuesday at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium before concluding the regular season with a 7 p.m. contest Saturday at Stetson (4-5-5, 3-0-3).

Both Stetson and FGCU — along with North Florida — have clinched berths in the six-team ASUN Tournament. The Hatters (12 points) are one point back of the conference-leading Ospreys (13) while the Eagles are in third (10).

Bellarmine (4) is in eighth but is only three points shy of fourth-place Central Arkansas (7), so the Knights are firmly among the cluster of teams in the hunt for a tournament bid with two league games remaining.

ABOUT FGCU
This match had been postponed from an earlier date after Fort Myers-based FGCU had travel complications in the aftermath of a hurricane. The Eagles are coming off a 2-1 road win Friday at Central Arkansas and preceded that with a 2-0 home victory over Lipscomb. FGCU also has a 1-0 home win over Jacksonville and a 2-2 home draw against North Florida on its ledger. Shoki Yoshida is leading the Eagles with four goals.

ABOUT STETSON
Stetson is unbeaten in ASUN play. The Hatters' ASUN outcomes have been draw-heavy of late, as they've deadlocked in three of their last four conference games (Jacksonville, Central Arkansas, Lipscomb). The other was a 2-1 win at Queens. Stetson began ASUN play with 2-1 and 2-0 home wins over North Florida and FGCU, respectively. Maurice Hauser tops the Hatters with five goals.

LAST TIME OUT
Bellarmine kept its ASUN Tournament hopes alive with a critical 2-1 home win Saturday over Jacksonville. The Knights' scoreless streak in ASUN play was extinguished when freshman forward Nick Harshaw scored in the 10th minute. In the second half, with the score knotted at 1, Harshaw was fouled in the box, and sophomore midfielder Tate McCrery cashed in on the ensuing penalty kick. Bellarmine's defense withstood the Dolphins' attempts to equalize thereafter as the Knights triumphed in what they approached as a must-win game.
