Batchelor sets new men's tennis program mark for career wins

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Earlier this fall season, Bellarmine University men's tennis player Jack Batchelor etched his name into the program record books, eclipsing the total career wins mark.

A senior, Batchelor has been a staple in Bellarmine's lineup since he stepped on the court as a freshman in 2021. Batchelor entered the season ranked fifth all-time in wins with 81 and needed just 12 this season to pass Anton Rabinov (92, 2011-15) for the all-time lead. The record, a combination of singles and doubles wins, encompasses program history since the 2006-07 season as prior records are incomplete.

Batchelor made quick work of closing the gap between he and Rabinov, winning ten matches (six singles, four doubles) in the team's first two events of the fall season. At the ITA Regionals hosted by Purdue, the team's third event of the season, Batchelor finally reached the top winning a single and two doubles matches to record his 93rd career victory as a Knight. Since then, he's gone on to record seven more wins to reach the century mark, the only player to do so in recorded program history.

"It's a huge honor to reach the milestone and become the all-time wins leader. I think it reflects all the work that's been put in over the last 3 and a half years, but also how much myself and the team have grown over the years," Batchelor said of the accomplishment. "I owe a great deal of credit to Coach Davis and my teammates who have helped me develop as a player over the course of my time at Bellarmine."

This season, Batchelor has already recorded 19 wins, 10 in singles play and nine in doubles action. His 10 singles win also vault him into the program lead for most career singles win with 61, passing Rabinov who recorded 55 in his career. His nine doubles wins put him at 39 for his career, moving him into fifth all-time, only trailing Zachary Kuo (49, 2013-17), Jose Legarreta (47, 2013-17), Rabinov (40, 2011-15) and Paul Reynolds (40, 2019-23).

"I am very excited about Jack's accomplishments. It shows the hard work and commitment he has put towards his craft," head coach Will Davis said of the senior. "Bellarmine has had many special players, and it is a privilege to be able to coach and help Jack along his journey. I look forward to seeing it continue into his last season."

With a full spring season left ahead, Batchelor has the opportunity to extend his record to new heights.

"I'm looking forward to adding to the tally in 2025 and making the most of final spring season as a Knight," he added.
