JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Bellarmine University men's soccer senior defender
Austin Yowell was named first-team All-ASUN while midfielder
Nick Harshaw was a unanimous ASUN All-Freshman Team selection, the league announced Friday.
In addition, Yowell, senior goalkeeper
Peter Van Euwen and sophomore midfielder
Calle Sjoberg were acknowledged on the 11-member Academic All-ASUN Team.
In both his seasons at Bellarmine, Yowell has been an All-ASUN recipient, earning second-team honors last year. The native of Phoenix, Arizona, is the team leader in assists with four and minutes with 1,249, never leaving the field in the last four games during the Knights' inspired push to the ASUN Championship. It was Yowell's goal in the 89th minute of a 1-1 draw with Stetson in the regular-season finale that ultimately extended BU's season. He became the sixth Knight in five seasons in the league to wrangle a first-team All-ASUN laurel. The outside back doubled up on the honors with his Academic All-ASUN accolade; he's a business administration major.
While Yowell's goal was the clincher in the run to an ASUN Championship berth, Harshaw's breakout play was instrumental in the lead-in. The ASUN All-Freshman Team recipient helped account for all four goals in Bellarmine's crucial 2-1 and 2-0 conference wins over Jacksonville and FGCU, respectively. He scored and then was fouled in the box to set up a successful penalty kick against the Dolphins before finding the net and assisting on the second goal in the triumph over the Eagles. Harshaw also had a brace in a win over the Knights' former D2 archrival Southern Indiana and is the team leader with four goals and nine points.
Academic All-ASUN selection Van Euwen is an Ohio State transfer who is pursuing his MBA. Flourishing on the field as well as in the classroom at Bellarmine, he ranks second in the ASUN in goals-against average (1.24), fourth in save percentage (.704) and is tied for fourth in shutouts (three). The native of Avon Lake, Ohio, posted clean sheets in ASUN contests against Queens and FGCU while collecting three saves or more in seven games this season.
Sjoberg, an Academic All-ASUN selection who is majoring in finance, ranks second on Bellarmine in points (seven) and is tied for second in goals (two) and assists (three). The native of Vaermdoe, Sweden, was responsible for the game-winning goal against IU Indianapolis. He supplied a goal and an assist in the win over FGCU and distributed two assists in the victory over Southern Indiana.
