Women’s golf bounces back from tough first day to finish 10th at Ozarks National

3/28/2024 10:44:00 AM

HOLLISTER, Mo. – Josephine Bonin shot a team-low round of 74 (plus-2) Wednesday as the Bellarmine women's golf team wrapped up a weather-shortened Ozarks National Invitational.

The Knights finished 10th in the 13-team field, though they made a marked improvement from their first-round 334 (plus-46) to shoot a 305 (plus-17) in the second and final round.

Monday's opening round was postponed to Tuesday due to heavy rains moving through the area. The teams were then set to play 36 holes on Tuesday before the second 18 were cancelled due to frigid temperatures. The teams played the final 18 as scheduled on Wednesday.

Bonin, Jessica Stephens, Presli Webb and Lauren Stewart (playing individually) all made improvements of nine strokes or better from Monday to Tuesday. Alaina Schmitt made another solid showing, finishing one stroke behind Bonin for the team lead.

Oral Roberts won the event at plus-13, 23 strokes better than second-place Middle Tennessee. The Golden Eagles featured three of the top four individual finishers and four of the top 10. ORU's Christina Riu earned medalist honors at minus-4, nine strokes better than the rest of the field, following rounds of 69 and 71.
