Women's basketball to face Jacksonville in 1st round of ASUN Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's basketball team makes its return to the postseason with a 6 p.m. (ET) matchup Friday with Jacksonville in the first round of the ASUN Championship in FGCU's Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Florida.

Jacksonville (10-19, 6-10 ASUN) is the 9-seed and Bellarmine (10-18, 5-11) is the 10-seed. The winner advances to meet top-seeded FGCU (26-4, 16-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Jacksonville captured an 87-69 home win Jan. 27 in the regular-season meeting. From Bellarmine's perspective, if nothing else, that contest reinforced how detrimental foul trouble can be. The Knights were plagued by it for the vast majority of the game and were off kilter throughout as a result.

Jacksonville had a four-game winning streak in February in which the Dolphins were victorious by 11 points or more in every contest. JU dropped 55-51 and 80-55 decisions at Stetson and FGCU, respectively, in its final two regular-season games.

Jacksonville's Edyn Battle finished the regular season as the ASUN scoring champion while averaging 19.8 points per game. Saniyah Craig is averaging in the realm of a double-double (10.0 pts, 8.0 reb), with her production on the boards ranking second in the league. Although they don't necessarily hoist up a ton of them, the Dolphins lead the ASUN in three-point percentage (32.9).

Bellarmine is entering the first round of the ASUN Tournament following perhaps its best week of play of the season. The Knights clinched the 10-seed with an 80-74 victory over Lipscomb in the penultimate game of the regular season and followed with a 76-71 triumph over Austin Peay in the finale, both in Freedom Hall. Those results were BU's third- and fourth-highest scoring efforts in ASUN play this year.

Senior forward Cam Browning garnered the ASUN's final Player of the Week accolade and junior guard Hope Sivori the last Newcomer of the Week laurel. Browning posted double-doubles against Lipscomb (15 pts, career-high 14 reb) and Austin Peay (18 pts, 10 reb). Sivori poured in 23 points against the Bisons and ranks third in the ASUN in assists (4.3), tops the conference in total steals (57) and is fourth in 3-pointers made (62) while being BU's second-leading scorer (11.1). The Western Kentucky transfer joined the 1,000-point club for her college career.

Junior guard Hayley Harrison ranks fifth in the ASUN in scoring (15.4), is second in free throws made (121) and attempted (148) and fourth in FT percentage (81.8). Sophomore guard Miyah Brown supplied a team-high 21 points against Austin Peay and is averaging 10.2 points and 6.0 rebounds.
