LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine University cheerleading coach
Charli Webb today announced that she is stepping down after four years at the helm.
"Bellarmine cheerleading has been an integral part of my life since my freshman year in 2012," said Webb. "Over the past 12 years, the experience has been immensely fulfilling. Transitioning away from a life centered around Bellarmine cheerleading will undoubtedly feel strange, but I'm prepared to shift my focus towards my career and family."
Webb, née Knauer, helped guide the cheerleading squad to their first National Cheer Association championship as an assistant coach during the 2018-19 season before leading them on return trips to Daytona Beach as head coach in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. The Knights placed third in the All-Girl Division in 2021, their first year as a Division I program.
"I want to thank Charli for bringing her passion for cheerleading to Bellarmine and for demonstrating her love for the university by serving in both assistant and head coaching capacities," said Bellarmine director of athletics Scott Wiegandt. "We wish her the best and welcome her back to campus anytime."
A native of Louisville, Webb's Bellarmine cheerleading career began as a member of the team from 2012 to 2016 while earning her undergraduate degree. She then returned as an assistant from 2016 to 2020 and was named head coach leading into the 2020-21 season. She also holds an MBA from Bellarmine.
"I eagerly anticipate taking on a more active alumni role, attending games and participating in future events," Webb added. "My affection for Bellarmine remains steadfast and I'm immensely grateful for the opportunities I've had over the past 12 seasons, both as a student-athlete and a coach."
Bellarmine is now set to begin its search for the Knights' next head cheerleading coach.
