Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. –The Bellarmine University men's tennis team opened its season at the Louisville Invitational this weekend, accumulating 16 total wins across three days of action.
In addition to Bellarmine and host Louisville, other participants included Illinois, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Eastern Kentucky, Belmont, Memphis, Southern Indiana and Kentucky.
Junior
Eli Wood led the way for the Knights in singles play, finishing fifth in Flight C. Wood went 3-1 overall, downing opponents from EKU and Belmont.
Seniors
Jack Batchelor and
Brent Reynolds and junior
Matthew Nice also shared success in singles, each finishing sixth in their respective flights. Junior
Vineet Ramesh finished ninth in his draw. Batchelor and Ramesh finished the singles portion of the event with two wins each while Nice, Reynolds, sophomore
Louie Fletcher and freshman
Diego Martinez tallied a win each.
In doubles action, Batchelor and junior
Matthew Nice led the Knights with a 2-1 record, moving past foes from Kentucky and Louisville before falling in the final to a pair from Notre Dame.
The duo of Ramesh/Reynolds also went 2-1 in the doubles portion of the weekend while Fletcher/Wood turned in a 1-2 record. Martinez, paired with Mitchell Sheldon from Michigan State, went 1-1.
Overall, Bellarmine went 11-17 as a team in singles play and 5-4 in doubles.
Up next, Bellarmine will head to Muncie, IN to compete Friday, September 27 to Sunday, September 29 in the Ball State Invitational.
