BOONE, N.C. – The Bellarmine field hockey squad heads southeast to North Carolina this weekend for a pair of road competitions.
The Knights (2-5, 0-1 MAC) will first square up with Appalachian State (4-3, 1-0 MAC) on Friday at 6 p.m. ET in Boone for their first road Mid-American Conference game before heading to Davidson (3-3, 0-1 A10) for a Sunday tilt at 12 p.m. ET.
About Appalachian State
Appalachian State enters Friday's game at 4-3, including a 2-0 win at Ohio in their MAC opener last Friday. The Mountaineers are 18-8 overall under second-year head coach Emily Dinsmore. Bellarmine is winless in five tries against ASU with all games coming as conference mates since the reclassification to Division I. Senior forward Charlotte Bosma leads ASU with 10 points (four goals, two assists), though she has connected on just 14.3% of her shots. Three other Mountaineers are tied for second on the team with three goals apiece: Henriette Stegen, Florina Koopman and Sophia Baxter. The combined duo of Stegen and Baxter has connected on 66.7% of their shots. Bosma and Koopman each own a MAC Player of the Week honor this season. ASU is led in-goal by senior Claire Grenis, who has posted a .725 save percentage. She took home MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season following shutout wins over Towson and Georgetown. Grenis is a big reason why ASU leads the MAC with its 1.57 goals against average.
Boisvert on the Mountaineers
"It's hard to believe we're heading into Week 5 of our season, marking the halfway point of 2024. App State has consistently been one of the top programs in the MAC since we've joined the conference, and they play a dynamic, aggressive style of hockey. They're tough in the circle and composed on defense. We're excited about the challenge they present and eager to test ourselves on both ends of the field." –Head coach

About Davidson
Davidson is set to visit Richmond on Friday before hosting Bellarmine on Sunday. The Wildcats enter the weekend at 3-3 and are coming off a 1-0 win over Saint Francis on Sunday after dropping their Atlantic 10 opener at home to No. 10 Saint Joseph's 5-0 two days prior. The Wildcats have played the Knights close over the past two seasons. Bellarmine earned a 4-3 double-overtime win last season on a golden goal by
Alicia Hudson. In 2022, Bellarmine won in North Carolina, 4-3 in regulation. Davidson was victorious in the teams' first two meetings in 2021 and 1994. Junior Sib Naaktgeboren leads DC with three goals, 24 shots and 15 shots on goal. She was named to the Preseason All-A10 Team. Senior Macy Curtis is the only other Wildcat with multiple goals on the season for an offense that ranks 53
rd in Division I averaging 1.50 goals per game. Keeper MaryKate Berg has started all six games and keyed a pair of 1-0 shutout wins. She was named A10 Defensive Player of the Week following the Wildcats' 1-0 win over Towson.
