Box Score HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Bellarmine University field hockey team finished its string of four straight games away from home to start the season with a 3-0 loss to Long Island on the campus of Hofstra University Sunday afternoon.
Long Island (2-1) was able to convert on penalty corners three times to account for all of the scoring in the game. The Sharks led the Knights 2-0 at the half and added a third goal in the second half.
For much of the first three quarters, Bellarmine (2-2) was unable to consistently work the ball up the field. For the second straight game, the Knights had just a single penalty corner to work with and limited attacking opportunities.
The Knights were able to muster a little momentum after turning up their pressure in the fourth quarter, but were unable to dent the Sharks' defense.
Up next, Bellarmine will open their home schedule against Michigan State on Friday, Sept. 13 at 12 p.m. ET. for the first of three straight contests at Trager Stadium on the campus of UofL.
