LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University volleyball team closed out its short homestand on Saturday afternoon, dropping an Atlantic Sun contest 3-1 to Lipscomb in Knights Hall.
Bellarmine opened the match with a thrilling 25-19 victory in the opening set. From there, Lipscomb (11-11, 7-5 ASUN) turned up the pressure and ripped off three straight set wins, 25-18, 25-17, 25-11, to win the match 3-1.
For the Knights (11-13, 5-7 ASUN) freshman
Lillie Meinhart led the offense with a new career-high 11 kills, committing just three errors in 26 attempts to hit .308, adding four blocks to tie a career-high. Junior
Erika Smith turned in 10 kills, also committing just three errors in her 23 attempts to hit .304. Sophomore
Payton Parsons was solid on the backline, turning in a match best 14 digs in addition to five assists and an ace. Senior
Kylie Van Hoy registered her team leading ninth double-double of the season, recording 24 assists and 13 digs while adding three kills and three aces.
Lipscomb turned in a clean, team effort to take down the Knights, topping them in kills (53-40), assists (46-32), aces (7-4), digs (54-50) and blocks (9.0-5.0). Bellarmine damaged its own effort committing 44 total errors while the Bisons committed 33.
Up next, Bellarmine will hit the road for the final time of the regular season, making the short trip to Richmond, KY to take on Eastern Kentucky on November 7 before a second trip to Florida to face off against FGCU on November 9.
