FINDLAY, Oh. – Bellarmine wrestling sent a squad of 20 Knights to compete at the Findlay Open last weekend and had six placers in the event.
A late addition to the schedule, the Knights made the most of the event.
Redshirt sophomore
Jack Ring earned top billing for Bellarmine, placing second in the 184-pound weight class. Ring kicked off his run with a 17-1 tech fall before going on to win three straight matches by decision, earning his spot in the championship bout where he finally fell in a 4-1 overtime decision.
Freshman
Travis Long turned in the second-best finish on the team, coming in fourth in the 133-pound weight class. Long won his first two battles before dropping back-to-back matches to place fourth.
Junior
Jeb Prechtel (157) and redshirt freshman
Tristin Greene (165) both earned fifth place honors in their respective divisions. Prechtel won his opening round match by tech fall, 20-4, before dropping his second-round bout by a 12-8 decision. From there, he went on a three-match win streak to go 4-1 overall and claim fifth place. Greene started his run with three straight wins by decision before suffering a loss. He bounced back immediately though, winning his final bout by a 9-6 decision to also go 4-1 and claim fifth place.
Additionally, freshman Issac Johns (157) placed seventh and redshirt freshman
Charlie Gessford (157) placed eighth.
Up next, Bellarmine will host its first dual of the season, welcoming Northern Illinois to Knights Hall on Friday, November 21 at 6 pm E.T.
