LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine University was productive in its opening weekend of the 2025-26 season, winning claiming eight top three finishes between the Patriot and Clarion Opens, highlighted by three Knights taking first place honors.

On Saturday at the Patriot Open, hosted by University of the Cumberlands, 15 Knights went to battle with 11 freshmen making their collegiate debut. Joshua Medina and Isaac Johns earned top billing for the newest Knights as both men won their division with a perfect 6-0 record. Medina took first in the 125-pound weight class while Johns did so in the 157-pound weight class. Behind them, Cameron Vinson registered a second-place finish in the 197-pound weight class with a 3-1 record. Redshirt freshman Grant Anderson repeated his third-place performance from a year ago, turning in a 4-1 record to take third for the second straight year in the 197-pound weight class. Senior Lucas LeClerc rounded out the group, placing fourth with a 4-2 record in the 157-pound division.

At the Clarion Open, hosted by Clarion University, Bellarmine sent its biggest names to compete in a challenging field. The Knights performed well, earning four placements, led by redshirt junior Grant O'Dell's championship win in the 174-pound weight class. Behind him, redshirt sophomore AJ Rallo (141) and grad student Daulton Mayer (285) both earned second-place finishes, each going 3-1 in their respective weight classes. Redshirt senior Zac Cowan rounded out the effort with a fifth-place finish in the 149-pound weight class after going 3-1.

"Our guys battled hard at the Clarion Open. Grant, Daulton, and AJ led the way with great performances, but what stood out most was our team's fight from start to finish," said head coach Ned Shuck. "We're excited to keep building and look forward to showing consistent effort across all ten weights against Iowa."

In total, the 35 Knights who competed over the weekend combined for a 77-57 record and recorded 26 wins by fall.

Bellarmine will have a quick turnaround to get ready for its next match as the Knights open their dual schedule this Thursday with a trip to Iowa City, IA to take on the No. 3 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
