Swimming set for ASUN Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University swimming teams will compete in the ASUN Swimming & Diving Championship from Wednesday to Saturday at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
 
This year marks just the second ASUN Swimming & Diving championships. Before the ASUN began sponsoring swimming and diving, Bellarmine competed in the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships.
 
Preliminaries will begin at 10 am each day with championship flights beginning at 6 pm.
 
Joining Bellarmine in women's action will be Florida Gulf Coast, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, Queens and Liberty. On the men's side, the Knights will be joined by Queens, Old Dominion, Florida Atlantic University and Gardner-Webb.
 
The Knights closed out the regular season on February 1 with wins from both sides over Evansville.
 
On the men's side, Evan Dickson and Brandon Thomas led the charge with two golds each. Dickson claimed first in both the 200 and 500 freestyle, winning with times of 1:43.80 and 4:44.93, respectively. Thomas touched the wall first in the 200 IM (1:57.19) and the 200 breaststroke (2:09.72).
 
Additionally, three other Knights in Sam JonesEmir Nigdelioglu and Cason Henderson all topped the podium once. Jones claimed his win in the 1000 freestyle (9:49.75) while Nigdelioglu took first in the 50 freestyle (21.41), as did Henderson in the 200 IM.
 
The Knights also won both the 200-medley relay (Colin JacksonAndrew Nguyen, Metzner and Caleb Howard; 1:33.42) and the 400-freestyle relay (Britton PiankiReece Pennington, Dickson, Jackson; 3:08.51).
 
On the women's side, Micaela Godfrey and Lily Wolfe led the way with a pair of wins each. Godfrey touched the wall first in the 200 IM (2:08.44) and the 200 backstroke (2:05.84) while Wolfe won both the 500 and 1000 freestyle with times of 5:18.29 and 10:49.39, respectively.
 
Joining them, the Knights had four other swimmers win one event each in Kate RyanLily EpleyErin Dall'Agnol and Alexandra Pierce. Ryan took first in the 200 freestyle while Epley won the 50 freestyle, Dall'Agnol won the 100 freestyle and Pierce won the 200 breaststroke.
 
The foursome of Godfrey, Dall'Agnol, Pierce and Epley combined for a first-place finish in the 200-medley relay.
