LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In a season chock full of unprecedented accomplishments in the Division-I era, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team is aiming to make more history.
Eighth-seeded Bellarmine (17-14, 8-10 ASUN) will seek to claim its first-ever ASUN Tournament victory when the Knights face seventh-seeded Jacksonville (14-16, 8-10) in the first round at 7:30 p.m. (ET) Friday at Central Arkansas' Farris Center. The winner will face the second-seeded Sugar Bears (21-8, 15-3) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Bellarmine set a bundle of D1-era program records in the regular season under veteran Knights coach
Chancellor Dugan, including overall wins (17), ASUN wins (eight), nonconference wins (nine), road wins (nine) and winning streak (six, from Nov. 21-Dec. 12). BU is 0-3 in the ASUN Tournament and looking to break new ground there as well.
Bellarmine will attempt to do just that against a Jacksonville squad that it's squaring off with for the third time this season. The Knights and Dolphins split in the regular season, with each winning on the road. JU defeated BU 91-83 on Feb. 1 in Louisville, while the Knights clipped the Dolphins 78-73 on Feb. 20 in the Sunshine State.
Bellarmine and Jacksonville are meeting in the first round of the ASUN Tournament for the second straight season. The Dolphins claimed a 79-62 win in 2024 at FGCU's Alico Arena.
Bellarmine has largely excelled away from Louisville this year. The Knights finished the regular season 6-3 in ASUN road games. The matchup with Jacksonville will be neutral site, with BU 1-0 on the season in such contests after posting a 67-59 win over Jackson State in November in USC Upstate's Thanksgiving MTE.
Guard Edyn Battle earned first-team All-ASUN accolades while forward Saniyah Craig garnered third-team notice for Jacksonville. Battle was the conference's regular-season scoring champion by a relatively comfortable margin after averaging 20.1 points per game. Craig tops the conference in rebounding (11.6) while averaging a double-double (also 11.4 points per game).
Bellarmine had three players reap All-ASUN laurels. Senior guards
Hayley Harrison and
Hope Sivori were recognized on the second team while senior forward
Skylar Treadwell was acknowledged on the third team. Harrison ranks third in the ASUN in scoring (14.9) while Sivori tops the conference in 3-pointers made (86) and steals (61 total) while ranking seventh in assists (3.0) and ninth in scoring (13.5). Treadwell is the league's second-leading rebounder (9.1) and 11th-highest scorer (13.4).
Both teams are looking to bounce back from two losses to end the regular season. Jacksonville fell 78-64 at reigning ASUN champion FGCU and 69-61 at intra-city rival North Florida, while Bellarmine was edged 76-71 at home by Lipscomb and 72-63 at Austin Peay.
