LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Shaqwedia Wallace, who enjoyed a 14-year professional playing career overseas, has joined the coaching ranks as an assistant with the Bellarmine University women's basketball team, head coach
Monique Reid announced Wednesday.
Wallace, known at Bellarmine as "Coach Q," is the finishing touch on the first staff under Reid, who in April was elevated to the head position after the retirement of longtime head coach Chancellor Dugan. Wallace was an All-Atlantic 10 guard at Temple University prior to her lengthy pro career.
"Coach Q brings a wealth of experience to our staff, having played 14 years overseas and at Temple University," Reid said. "Her deep knowledge of the game and proven ability to develop players make her an invaluable asset. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to demonstrate techniques firsthand — she doesn't just teach it, she shows it. Her high-level playing experience translates directly into her coaching."
Wallace's accomplished international playing tenure included stints in Spain (2011-12, UNB), Portugal (2012-13, Quinta Dos Lombos; 2014-16, Club Uniao Sportiva), France (2016-17, Angers; 2018-19, Nantes; 2023, RVBC), Belgium (2017-18, Waregem; 2019-20, Castors Braine), Turkey (2020-21, Adana Basket Klub; 2022-23, Antalya; 2024, Bursa), Israel (2021, Ramat Gan), Romania (2021-22, Sepsi Sic), Beirut (2022, Beirut Club), Mexico (2024, Adelitas) and Lebanon (2025, Beirut Club).
Wallace earned two league championships and one EuroCup title while being named MVP (2014) in her time in Portugal with Club Uniao Sportiva. She helped lead Castors Braine of Belgium, Ramat Gan of Israel and Sepsi Sic of Romania to regular-season league championships and delivered an MVP campaign (2022) while powering Beirut Club of Beirut to an Arab Club championship.
"Coach Mo has an amazing vision for the new BU, and I feel honored and grateful she chose me to help her see it through," Wallace said. "I believe in her and I believe in US! GO KNIGHTS!"
Wallace had a prolific four-year college career at Temple in which she finished her tenure as the program's 12th-leading scorer all-time (1,190 points) and its all-time leader in 3-pointers made (162). As a senior in 2010-11, the 5-foot-9 guard was a third-team All-Atlantic 10 selection after averaging 13.5 points and 2.7 assists per game.
Wallace additionally received first-team Big 5 plaudits as a senior and second-team laurels as a junior (the "Big 5" is an association of college athletic programs located in the Philadelphia area). She had a breakout sophomore campaign as a super sub for the Owls, averaging 11.0 points per game and following with a 10.6-point clip as a junior.
Wallace earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Temple.
A native of Wilmington, North Carolina, Wallace played high school basketball at Laney High School, where she was recognized as the Wilmington Star News Player of the Year as a senior while averaging 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game and spurring the team to a 28-2 record. Laney retired Wallace's jersey, where it sits next to boys alum Michael Jordan's in a display case.
