MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Bellarmine University men's golf team set a pair of records this week at the Grover Page Classic en route to tying for fifth place out of 14 teams.
The Knights totaled 837 strokes in the play-five-count-four format, setting an overall program record for lowest stroke total in a three-round event. The team finished at -15, the lowest score to par during Bellarmine's Division I record.
In addition to the records, four Knights holed eagles during the event, including
Matthew Santini and
Ben Davenport, who both finished at -5 and tied for 13th.
Kash Albarado sank a pair of eagles while
Luke Bischoff also recorded a single eagle. Bellarmine's five eagles ranked second in the event behind Southern Indiana's seven.
Bellarmine also performed well on par 3s, averaging an event-best 3.07 strokes.
Davenport and Santini each recorded single rounds of 66, the lowest scores by a Knight since Patrick Brooks and Frankie Morgan carded 65s in the first and third rounds, respectively, of the Colonel Shootout in the opening event of the 2023-24 season. In fact, four total Knights carded a single round in the 60s for the first time in the program's Division I era. Bellarmine also had three players finish below par for the first time since last fall's Dolenc Invitational, the opening event of the 2024-25 season.
ASUN foe Central Arkansas took home the team medal at -38, 14 strokes better than host Tennessee Martin. Other notables include Murray State in fourth and Southern Indiana in 13th. Tennessee Tech's Haden Maxwell earned individual medalist honors at -11, two strokes better than a trio tied for 2nd.
