LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In the final week before ASUN action begins, the Bellarmine University men's soccer team will host an intra-city match with Division III Spalding at 7 p.m. (ET) Wednesday before heading to Ohio for a 7 p.m. contest Saturday at Bowling Green State.
ABOUT SPALDING
Spalding (2-2-2) will enter Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on a three-game unbeaten streak, the last two of which have been wins. The Golden Eagles notched a 2-1 home win over Earlham and a 4-2 road victory over Mount St. Joseph. Eddie Mendez-Perez has tallied three goals in six games. One interesting note in the teams' history came in 2019 when Spalding defeated Bellarmine 2-1 in an exhibition at Frazier Stadium. Although it didn't officially count as a loss, the Knights wouldn't taste defeat of any kind again that season until the Sweet 16 of the NCAA II Tournament, as they went undefeated in the regular season and captured the GLVC Tournament title while finishing 16-1-5 in the program's final season in Division II.
ABOUT BOWLING GREEEN STATE
Bowling Green State (2-2-2) will be a stern challenge for Bellarmine as the lead-in to its ASUN opener. The Falcons are fresh off a 1-1 draw at No. 18 Kentucky. They preceded that with a 1-0 home win over Michigan State, a 1-0 loss at Michigan and a 3-0 home victory over Wright State. BGSU has not conceded more than one goal in any match. Trace Terry's team-high four goals have come in the last four games, including accounting for the team's goals against Michigan State and Kentucky. Terry was named a second-team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches in 2024 and was acknowledged this preseason on the Hermann Trophy Watch List, which is presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club and is the nation's highest individual honor recognizing the National Player of the Year as determined by voting of Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches. The Falcons were the 2024 MVC Tournament runner-up while finishing 12-6-2.
KNIGHTS NOTES:
• As a result of last Sunday's Chicago State cancelation, which was requested by CSU, Bellarmine will face Spalding on a little over a week's rest. BU most recently posted a 1-0 home win over Northern Kentucky on Sept. 9.
• Bellarmine is 2-0 at home this season. In addition to the 1-0 victory over Northern Kentucky, the Knights defeated visiting Xavier 3-1 on Aug. 30. The three goals against the Musketeers represent a season high.
• Bellarmine's six results thus far formed a pattern. The Knights' first three results were tie-loss-win and their next three results were tie-loss-win.
• The shutout of Northern Kentucky was Bellarmine's first clean sheet of 2025.
•
Nick Harshaw accounted for the game-winning goal against Northern Kentucky after finding the net in the 74th minute. It was the first goal of the season for the sophomore midfielder, who tallied a team-high four last season while being a unanimous ASUN All-Freshman Team selection.
• Redshirt senior
Peter Van Euwen was named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 2 after registering five saves against Kentucky and a career-high nine against Xavier.
